Kate Smith Speaks

By Jake Jaekel

Kate Smith was asked in 1972 the question, "Is there any guest appearance of your career that especially stands out in your estimation"?

Miss Smith’s answer was, "Up’til last December the outstanding guest appearance of my career had been singing in the White House for President and Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt and the King and Queen of England. But singing at the Memorial above the battle ship USS Arizona in the middle of Pearl Harbor last December 7th was a tremendous thrill. The song I sang was "GOD BLESS AMERICA".

Kate Smith and Joe E. Brown also put on a tremendous performance at the Pearl Harbor Survivors 30th Reunion Banquet December 7th, 1971, in Hawaii.
